Shipping Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

This Policy explains how orders placed through Ujenzi Direct, a trading name of Amani Hardware Private Limited, are delivered or collected. Ujenzi Direct is a multi-vendor marketplace. The vendor listed on your order supplies the goods; Ujenzi Direct provides the marketplace, arranges delivery, and runs the payment and dispute process.

This Policy does not limit any customer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. If the law gives you greater protection, the law applies.

1. Where we deliver

We currently deliver only within the Dar es Salaam Region. For delivery elsewhere, contact us before ordering. We may agree a special arrangement in writing, with the price and estimated time confirmed before you pay.

2. Delivery fees

Delivery fees are based on the weight or volume of your order and may also depend on distance. The fee is shown at checkout before you place your order, when you can still review, correct, or withdraw from it. We will not add a delivery charge after you order without your agreement, except the charges listed in section 9.

Free or discounted delivery is offered only as a promotion, with its conditions shown alongside it.

3. Delivery days, hours, and estimated times

  • Delivery days: Monday to Saturday. We do not deliver on Sundays or public holidays unless agreed with you in advance.
  • Delivery hours: 07:00 to 18:00. We do not deliver at night.
  • Cut-off time: orders confirmed by 12:00 on a delivery day are normally delivered the same day. Orders confirmed later, or on a Sunday or public holiday, are normally delivered on the next delivery day.

An order is "confirmed" when the vendor accepts it and, for prepaid orders, payment is received. Our target is delivery within six hours of confirmation, within delivery hours. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed time: traffic, rain, road closures, vehicle availability, site access, and order size can affect it. Large orders may need an agreed delivery date.

If your order is late: we will keep you informed. If any part of your order is not delivered within 7 days after confirmation, or by a later date you agreed, you may cancel the undelivered goods by notice and receive a refund under the Electronic Transactions Act and our Refund Policy. You may also cancel before dispatch under our Cancellation Policy. If goods are unavailable, we will tell you promptly and refund any payment for them.

4. Confirming and paying for your order

We or the vendor may call to confirm your address and site access before dispatch, especially for cash on delivery and large orders. If we cannot reach you, we may hold the order until we can.

Orders above 2,000,000 TZS, or needing a large truck or several trips, may require prepayment or a deposit of 50% before dispatch. We will tell you before you confirm the order. Prepayments and deposits are held in escrow.

Cash on delivery: pay only by the method shown on your order or confirmed by Ujenzi Direct, and keep the receipt. Drivers may not ask for extra money, tips, or payment to a personal number. Please report any such request to us.

5. Who carries your goods

Deliveries may be made by Ujenzi Direct vehicles, hired vehicles, the vendor, or independent transporters. Whoever carries the goods, Ujenzi Direct and the vendor remain responsible to you until handover; you do not need to claim against the carrier.

6. Your responsibilities at the delivery address

Please:

  • give a complete address, a location pin where possible, and a phone number that will be answered on the delivery day;
  • make sure an adult (you or someone you authorise) is present to receive, count, and sign for the goods;
  • provide safe, lawful access for the delivery vehicle, including any gate, estate, or site permission;
  • tell us before dispatch about narrow roads, low wires or branches, soft ground, steep slopes, or restricted hours; and
  • have a clear, safe place ready to store the goods.

A large truck may not be able to enter narrow or unpaved roads. If the vehicle cannot safely or lawfully reach your site, we will, with your agreement, deliver to the nearest safe point it can reach or arrange a smaller vehicle, which may change the fee or timing. The driver may refuse to drive or offload where it would be unsafe or unlawful.

7. Where goods are offloaded

Delivery is made at kerbside or ground level at the nearest safe point the vehicle can legally reach at your address. The delivery fee includes offloading at that point, within about 10 metres of the vehicle.

Carrying goods inside, upstairs, onto a slab, or further is not included; we can quote it before delivery. The crew may refuse unsafe carrying.

8. Checking and signing for your delivery

Please count bags, bars, boards, and pieces during offloading, and check product, grade or size markings, and visible condition against your order before you sign. Write any shortage or damage on the delivery note and take clear photographs.

You may refuse items that are visibly damaged, incorrect, or unsafe. Report damage, shortage, or an incorrect delivery as soon as reasonably possible and, where practicable, within 48 hours of delivery. This is a prompt-reporting request, not a deadline that removes rights you may have under applicable law. A delivery signature or inspection does not waive your legal rights. See our Return Policy.

Weights and quantities: cement is sold by the bag at the net weight marked on the bag (for example, 50 kg). Steel bars sold by the tonne are invoiced by bar size and number of bars, with the weight basis shown on the listing or delivery note. Where goods are weighed, we use weighing equipment verified as required by law, and you may ask for the weighing record.

9. Extra charges

These charges apply only where stated and are limited to the reasonable cost of the extra service or wasted trip.

ChargeWhen it appliesAmount
Carry-in, upstairs, or long carryOnly if you ask for it and accept the quoteQuoted before delivery
Waiting timeAfter 30 minutes free waiting (small vehicles) or 60 minutes (trucks), if the delay is caused by you or your site10,000 TZS per 30 minutes
Re-deliveryAfter a failed delivery for a reason within your control (section 10)The delivery fee for the new trip
Returned loadGoods taken back to the vendor after a failed delivery for a reason within your controlThe direct transport cost of the return trip, up to the amount of the original delivery fee
Storage of uncollected goodsFrom day 4 after the ready-for-collection notice (section 11)5,000 TZS per day

We do not charge these fees where the problem was caused by us, the vendor, or the carrier, such as late arrival or wrong or damaged goods. We will not charge a handling fee where you exercise a statutory cancellation right.

10. Failed delivery

A delivery fails for a reason within your control if, for example, no one is available to receive the goods, your phone is not answered, the address is wrong, access is refused or unsafe, or you refuse correct, undamaged goods without a lawful reason. Before leaving, the driver will call you and wait for the free waiting time.

We will then contact you to arrange re-delivery. If a second attempt also fails, or we cannot reach you for 3 days, we may cancel the order. For prepaid orders, we will refund the price, less any applicable section 9 charges, within the time required by law under our Refund Policy.

11. Collecting from a vendor's store

Where offered, you may choose at checkout to collect from the vendor's store shown, which may be anywhere in Dar es Salaam.

  • Wait for the notice: come only after you receive a "ready for collection" message.
  • Bring: your order number or collection code and a valid photo ID. Someone else may collect for you if they bring the code, their own photo ID, and your written authorisation sent to us from your account, email, or registered phone number.
  • When: during the vendor's opening hours shown in the notice, within 3 days of the notice.
  • Loading: vendor staff will load standard orders onto your vehicle free of charge. You must bring a suitable vehicle and secure the load. Count and check the goods before leaving.

If you do not collect: we will send reminders. From day 4 after the notice, a storage fee of 5,000 TZS per day may apply. If goods are not collected within 14 days, we will send a final notice, and if they are still not collected 3 days later, we may cancel the order. For prepaid orders, we will refund the price less storage fees due, under our Refund Policy.

12. Risk, ownership, and caring for materials

Risk of loss or damage passes to you at handover: when goods are offloaded at the delivery point and accepted by you or your representative, or when collected goods are loaded onto your vehicle. For cash on delivery orders, ownership passes when you pay.

After handover, keep cement dry, covered, and off the ground, and protect boards, sanitary ware, and cables from rain, impact, and theft. We are not responsible for damage caused after handover by weather, storage, handling, or theft. This does not affect your rights for goods that were damaged, defective, short, or incorrect at handover.

13. Large orders and split deliveries

Large orders may be delivered in several trips on an agreed schedule. Each trip has its own delivery note and is checked and handed over separately. If part of an order is delayed, you may accept what is available or cancel the undelivered part under section 3 and our Cancellation Policy.

14. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delay caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, flooding, road closures, government restrictions, or a general fuel shortage. We will tell you and deliver as soon as we reasonably can. If the delay passes the time in section 3, you may still cancel and receive a refund.

Because delivery times are estimates, please confirm delivery before booking labour or equipment that depends on it. Unless the law provides otherwise, we are not responsible for indirect losses, such as idle labour or equipment hire, caused by a delivery arriving later than estimated. Nothing in this Policy limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

15. Your delivery information

We share your name, phone number, address, and location only with the vendor and carrier handling your order, and only to deliver it. Carriers must keep it confidential and use it only for your delivery. Delivery notes and photographs are kept as records for disputes. See our Privacy Policy.

16. Escrow and delivery disputes

For eligible prepaid orders, Ujenzi Direct holds your payment pending fulfilment and the order confirmation process. If you report a delivery problem before the vendor is paid, you may ask us to pause the disputed amount while we review it. A payout already made to a vendor does not remove your rights.
